Drug & Alcohol Detox Program & Treatment in Atlanta

Lakeview Behavioral Health offers state-of-the-art detoxification services specifically for adults and adolescents who are struggling with chemical dependency. Detox is an essential first step toward lifelong recovery.

Who Can Benefit From Detox?

A drug and alcohol addiction detox program is the perfect first step for people who have been unable to stop using addictive substances prior to starting treatment. Depending upon which drug you have been abusing, trying to get through withdrawal on your own can be painful or even dangerous.

Our detox program provides you with a safe, comfortable, and closely supervised environment in which to rid your body of alcohol or other drugs. Once you’ve completed this process, you’ll be ready to transition directly into the next phase of your treatment plan.

What Happens During Detox?

The specifics of your detox experience will vary depending upon a variety of personal factors. In general, though, your time in our drug and alcohol addiction detox program will be focused on minimizing pain and protecting your health.

While you are in the detox program at Lakeview Behavioral Health Hospital, you will be under the care and supervision of psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, nurses, and other professionals. You may receive certain prescription medications to ease your withdrawal symptoms, and you may also benefit from therapeutic support to help manage any discomfort.

Most people complete our detox program in five to seven days.

Is Therapy Part of Detox?

Yes. One of the many benefits of healing at Lakeview Behavioral Health Hospital is that you will be able to take part in therapy while you are still in our detox program. As detox helps you to regain your physical strength and mental clarity, therapy will allow you to also start developing the skills that will support long-term recovery.

We offer group therapy sessions within our detox program, and we also provide an introduction to the 12-Step Recovery Model. You can even participate in AA or NA meetings. These opportunities allow you to make important strides in your recovery while you are still in our detox program.

What Are The Long-Term Advantages of Detox?

Our detox program is a short-term experience, but the benefits of this process can have a positive effect for years to come. Here are two examples:

First, when you complete detox, you demonstrate to yourself that you can accomplish a task that you may have once believed was impossible. This self-confidence and the knowledge that you are capable of achieving success even in the face of adversity will be essential throughout your recovery journey.

Also, while you are in the detox program at Lakeview Behavioral Health Hospital, you will have the opportunity to learn about the 12-Step Recovery Model, attend AA or NA meetings, and participate in group therapy. Forming positive relationships with others who are in recovery will ensure that you have support throughout your recovery journey.

What Happens After Detox?

Once you complete our detox program, you can move seamlessly into your next level of care. This approach ensures continuity of care and shields you from the risk of immediate relapse.

Some people who complete detox with us transition directly into our inpatient program, then step down to our partial hospitalization program (PHP) and/or our intensive outpatient program (IOP). You and your treatment team will work together to decide if your recovery journey will involve care at one, two, or all three of these levels.

As you near the end of your time in our care, you will receive a detailed discharge plan. This document will identify the professional referrals, community-based services, and other resources that will support your continued recovery in the months and years to come.
