Learn About Anxiety Treatment

Learn more about anxiety treatment at Lakeview Behavioral Health Hospital in Atlanta, GA

We all experience anxiety some of the time. The difference between daily anxiety and anxiety experienced by those suffering from generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is that anxiety associated with GAD is excessive and unwarranted. When anxiety becomes so severe it causes impairment in your daily living, it may be time to turn to the caring staff at our treatment center.

Generalized anxiety disorder is a disorder in which a person experiences extreme fear and anxiety over everyday life experiences; the symptoms of GAD cause significant distress even in absence of reasons for concern. If you are suffering from GAD, you may feel this disorder runs your life. GAD can be debilitating, but with the right treatment, you can learn how to manage your symptoms and live a happy life.

Our hospital’s staff understands that the inability to manage your anxiety can create significant problems for you. Our goal is to work with you to help you learn new effective ways to manage your anxiety. From the moment you arrive, we will work with you to create a treatment plan for your stay and an aftercare plan for continued recovery. We want you to feel supported and comforted during your stay with us.

Why Consider Us

Why consider treatment for anxiety at Lakeview Behavioral Health Hospital in Atlanta, GA

If untreated, the effects of GAD can become so overwhelming that they prevent an individual from functioning on a daily basis. Instead of living your life, your time will be consumed by worry and fear. Your relationships with family and friends may suffer because leaving your house may become too difficult. Work projects or school performance may suffer because you are unable to concentrate. As your life begins to slowly unravel, you may feel hopeless and alone. You don’t have to go through this alone.

Research has shown that treatments at a hospital are an effective way of managing the symptoms associated with GAD. Treatment centers that use a multidisciplinary treatment team composed of physicians, therapists, psychologists, nurses, licensed clinicians, and support staff are particularly effective in managing GAD. While the treatment team is a major part of your recovery, the most important person is you. Only you can take the skills we will provide and use them to help overcome your anxiety.

Types of Treatment

Types of anxiety treatment offered at Lakeview Behavioral Health Hospital in Atlanta, GA

The staff at our hospital near Atlanta, Georgia has experience working with many individuals struggling with anxiety. We provide care from the minute you walk through our doors until you leave us a changed person. We will constantly monitor your progress to make sure you are on track and meeting goals. Research has shown that the best treatment for generalized anxiety disorder is a combination of medication and therapeutic approaches.

Medication: For many, the first step in their treatment plan may be medication management. Once you are stabilized, you can begin to work on the healing process. Some may only use medication during the beginning of therapy while learning new coping mechanisms while others may need longer term medication management to address lingering symptoms or co-occurring disorders.

Individual therapy allows you to work one-on-one with a therapist to discuss complications and problems caused by GAD. During these sessions, you may uncover co-occurring disorders, examine anxiety triggers, and learn more effective ways of coping with stress and anxiety. Strength-based counseling is used to allow you to realize that you alone hold the strengths needed to change your life. This type of therapy does not focus on the problem, but identifies strengths and empowers you to be an active member of your treatment. We can teach you the tools, but only you can truly make the change.

Group therapy: Another popular type of therapy we utilize is group therapy. Group sessions are important because they allow you to connect with others going through similar situations. The process groups we hold focus on a particular topic giving each member of the group a chance to work through their emotions. Our psycho-educational groups are centered on information in areas such as medication management and relapse prevention.

Family therapy: We recognize that family is an important part of your life so we will include your family members in the therapeutic process. Family sessions will look at the family dynamic and factors that may contribute to GAD. Family members will also have the chance to express their feelings about living with someone with GAD. Additionally, education will be provided about GAD, the treatment process, and how loved ones can help you in your recovery.

As we believe that the best treatment outcomes are the result of treating the whole person instead of focusing on one area, Our anxiety treatment center near Atlanta, Georgia is proud to offer a variety of experimental methods. We believe that these treatment options offer more non-traditional outlets for your anxiety. These methods include:

  • N.A. and A.A.
  • Art therapy
  • Recreational therapies
  • Wellness and nutrition counseling
  • Music therapy
  • Expressive therapy

Continuing Care

Continuing care and levels of treatment for anxiety

When it’s been decided that you no longer need the structured setting of our hospital, you will work with your treatment team to devise the next plan of action. This aftercare plan will allow you to continue to heal and recover from GAD. For some individuals the next step is a long-term treatment center, this track provides a similar structured, but less intense environment than our hospital. Others may decide to join our intensive outpatient program (IOP) or partial hospitalization program (PHP), both of which allow continuation of your recovery. If you are ready to return home, we will work with you to locate a treatment provider and appropriate community resources you can lean on for outside support.
